What is the OFA status of the dam and sire?
Ruby and Mowgli have both had their hips examined by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA). Both have had their hips rated “good.” See Ruby’s results here and Mowgli’s results here.
What about genetic testing?
Both Mowgli and Ruby have been cleared by Embark of all genetic indicators for issues common among English Shepherds. You can see Ruby’s results here.
In addition, Mowgli has been tested for the Progressive Retinol Atrophy (PRA) gene marker and is negative. Ruby’s dam and sire (Bud and Tinq of Foxhill English Shepherds) have also been tested and are both negative, making Ruby negative for PRA by pedigree.
Are Ruby and Mowgli purebred English Shepherds?
Yes, both Ruby and Mowgli are purebred and registered with the United Kennel Club, or UKC. The first litter was also registered with the UKC. Future litters will also be registered.
What are the characteristics of the dam and sire?
Both Ruby and Mowgli are very personable and friendly dogs. Ruby is affectionate and alert. She is very attuned to human emotions and playful with kids and the other dogs in our pack. She is curious and excellent at finding and catching barn pests and shows promise with goat herding. She is extremely fast and agile.
Mowgli is athletic, easy going, has the sensitivity to be able to read and handle moods, is biddable, and intelligent. He wants to be helpful and is great with kids. He has his CGC (Canine Good Citizen), and has done some agility, obedience, and nose work.
